Advancement of science and education for women’s health initiative is a primary mission of the Global Academy for Women’s Health, Inc. This is a non-profit organization working for public benefit improving women’s health and the quality of their lives, decreasing women’s suffering and saving women’s lives around the world. Particularly, the Academy is devoted to the disease prevention of gynecological malignancies. Thousands of women die (including in developed countries) from diseases that could be easily prevented. We are dedicated to make a difference in women’s lives.
The organization has experienced, compassionated and devoted doctors, scientists, educators and counselors, who will do everything possible this difference to happen in women’s lives. No effort is too big, nor investment is too large to save one human life.
The Founder and President of the Global Academy is Olivera Markovic, M.D., Ph.D. She is an experienced, NIH trained cancer research scientist and university/medical school professor. She taught basic medical science courses in biochemistry, pharmacology, clinical chemistry, pathophysiology, biology, anatomy and physiology. She was also a health professor at universities and colleges teaching different health curricula including courses in women’s health, as well as courses in personal and community health, strategies in stress release and drug use and abuse. Teaching has been her vocation for more than 30 years, and she taught thousands of students in different parts of the world from undergraduate to graduate, doctoral and postdoctoral level. She has experience in adult education, too. Dr. Markovic was elected professor, visiting, adjunct professor at five universities and medical schools. She was a community activist conducting workshops in different health issues for the communities.
Dr. Markovic research is in the field of cancer, particularly women cancer. She has devoted the recent ten years to research on cervical cancer control and prevention working on the development of a new biomarker-based MarkPap® test for early detection of pre-cancerous cervical lesions (that if untreated could develop into cancer) and for HPV disease early detection.
Dr. Olivera Markovic has published more then 180 scientific publications, including books, chapters, invited review articles and patents. She was principal investigator of research projects funded by the NIH, industry, universities and private foundations. Dr. Markovic was director of clinical laboratory departments and research laboratories. Featured in bibliographical records of Marquis Who's Who in the World, Who's Who in America, Who's Who in Science and Engineering, Who's Who in Medicine and Healthcare and Who's Who of American Women. The International Bibliographical Centre, Cambridge, England, selected her among 2000 Outstanding People of the 20th Century.
Ms. Ann K. Dobbs, a business expert and experienced counselor is the Senior Advisor to The Global Academy for Women’s Health. Her contribution was instrumental in the start-up of the Academy.
Ms. Dobbs is a counselor of SCORE, Washington DC, Chapter 1 for more than ten years. She is counseling and helping numerous diverse businesses to start and grow. SCORE is a resource partner of the US Small Business Administration.
Ms. Dobbs will continue her non-profit activity through the Global Academy for Women’s Health.
Nenad Markovic, MD, PhD, Professor Emeritus of Oncology, former Professor of internal medicine, hematology, oncology, clinical pharmacology, and FDA medical reviewer.
We are deeply saddened by the passing of Prof. Dr. Philip Skell, a distinguished Board Member of the Academy. Prof. Skell was world renowned chemist, Professor Emeritus of Chemistry, Former Evan Pugh Professor of Chemistry and the Member of the United States National Academy of Sciences. His valuable contribution will remain alive through the future programs of the Global Academy and his friendship will never be forgotten.
